79 ETICA E BELLEZZA ETHICS AND BEAUTY As with all my projects, the description can only start with the roof. I believe architecture means making a roof, designing a cover, offering shelter. I have done this in the most diverse latitudes, because of both the functional and symbolic significance of the roof as a protective structure. The above is particularly true in this case and this land of Africa, where the roof is the primordial refuge, the shelter par excellence : here a roof serves to provide shade, but also to protect from rain and to produce energy. In particolare in questo caso e in questa terra d’Africa, dove il tetto è il rifugio primordiale, il riparo per eccellenza: qui un tetto serve a procurare ombra, ma anche a proteggere dall’acqua e poi a produrre energia.
