Zintek - Childrens surgical Hospital

15 In May 2008, shortly after the opening of the Salam Centre, EMERGENCY brought together, on the Venetian island of San Servolo, the delegations of the Ministries of Health of eight African countries – the Central African Republic, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Egypt, Eritrea, Rwanda, Sierra Leone, Sudan and Uganda – to discuss the need to guarantee the right to free high- level healthcare for African citizens . This marked the birth of the “Manifesto for medicine based on human rights”, the heart of the ANME project, African Network of Medical Excellence, which aims to promote the creation of regional medical centers based on the model of the Salam Centre in Khartoum, for healthcare based on equality, quality and social responsibility. In February 2017, the foundations were laid for the second piece of the network, the Children’s Surgical Hospital in Entebbe, on the shores of Lake Victoria, Uganda. The project was designed by the Renzo Piano Building Workshop, in collaboration with the EMERGENCY technical office and TAMassociati, while the structural design was entrusted to the Milan Ingegneria studio and Venetian firm Zintek for the supply of titanium zinc roofing materials. The new hospital was therefore built with innovative and eco-sustainable solutions and materials, in order to minimize energy consumption and environmental impact. Nel maggio 2008, poco dopo l’apertura del Centro Salam , EMERGENCY riunisce sull’isola veneziana di San Servolo le delegazioni dei Ministeri della Sanità di otto Paesi africani – Repubblica Centrafricana, Repubblica Democraticadel Congo, Egitto, Eritrea, Ruanda, Sierra Leone, Sudan e Uganda – per discutere la necessità di garantire ai cittadini africani il diritto a una sanità gratuita e di alto livello. Nasce così il “Manifesto per una medicina basata sui diritti umani”, alla base del progetto ANME, African Network of Medical Excellence – Rete sanitaria d’eccellenza in Africa, che ha l’obiettivo di promuovere la nascita di centri medici di portata regionale su modello del Centro Salam di Khartoum, per una sanità fondatasuuguaglianza, qualitàeresponsabilità sociale. Nel febbraio del 2017, si pongono le basi per il secondo tassello della rete, il Children’s Surgical Hospital di Entebbe, sulle rive del lago Vittoria, in Uganda. Il progetto viene disegnato dal Renzo Piano BuildingWorkshop, in collaborazione con l’ufficio tecnico di EMERGENCY e TAMassociati, mentre la progettazione strutturale viene affidata allo studio Milan Ingegneria e alla veneziana Zintek per quanto concerne la fornitura dei materiali di copertura in zinco-titanio. Il nuovo ospedale viene quindi costruito utilizzando soluzioni e materiali innovativi ed ecosostenibili, al fine di ridurre al minimo il consumo di energia e l’impatto ambientale.
