The latter – Reticulitermes (European termites) – are particularly common in the area, due to its hot and humid climate, and often represent a threat for construction materials. European standard UNI EN 117 indicates a method for determining the efficacy threshold of wood preservatives against the European termite Reticulitermes species. In order to meet the functional design requirements and simultaneously avoid attacks by termites, the roofing package was developed without any ventilation gaps.
